PARC STEMLab Antennas and Other Hardware
Very important hardware used for the SDRs in the STEMLab are talked about here. This includes the antennas, multi-couplers and computer resources.
HF Antenna

The STEMLab's HF Bench antenna is a JYR8010-150W End Fed Half Wave Antenna. It's a popular and well-performing long-wire antenna. Its specifications include coverage of 8 amateur bands from 3.5MHz to 29.7MHz, 80 meters through 10 meters.
VHF/UHF Antenna

The STEMLab's Experimentation Bench VHF/UHF antenna is a Diamond D130NJ whose specified coverage is 25MHz to 1300MHz.

Stridesberg Engineering Active HF Multi-Coupler

The 4-port active HF multi-coupler (model MCA104MIL) takes input from the HF antenna and outputs 4 simultaneous signsls with minimal loss. It also performs a critical function in protecting the SDRs from overloading by our local HF transceivers. Although protected from damaging overload, transmissions from the local HF transceivers can still cause noticeable interference. The working bandwidth is from 500kHz to 50MHz.

Stridesberg Engineering Active VHF/UHF Multi-Coupler

(Note: it looks virtually identical to the HF multi-coupler.)
The 4-port VHF/UHF active multi-coupler (model MCA204MIL) takes input from the VHF/UHF antenna and outputs 4 simultaneous signals with minimal loss. The working bandwidth is 25MHz to 1.0GHz. A primary function is to provide overload protection for the SDRs from the transmissions from our nearby VHF and UHF repeaters.

ADS-B and UAT Antennas
The STEMLab is using separate antennas for these services. They are not routed through an active multi-coupler since ADS-B broadcasts at 1090MHz which is outside the 1.0GHz upper limit of the UHF/VHF multi-coupler. But at these frequencies there is no local interference from nearby repeaters.
These antennas are simple verticals that are specifically tuned for ADS-B or UAT reception. However either will work well for either UAT or ADS-B reception in our experience.

Meshtastic Antenna

The Meshtastic Station G2 uses a SCALA TY-900 Yagi antenna. Its specifications are 890MHz to 960MHz bandwidth with 10dB gain. In our area Meshtastic transmits around 908MHz.
