STEMLab Experiments and Information

The STEM Experimentation Lab provides online resources for learning and experimentation that can be used by anyone to further their understanding of the radio frequency spectrum. The lab utilizes the PARC site on Palomar Mountain which provides a vantage point at 6000 feet up on Mount Palomar for accessing a wealth of radio signals.

There are two "benches" that make up the STEMLab, each having a different focus and equipment suite. These are the HF Bench and the Experimentation Bench:

All of the STEMLab's resources are meant to be accessed remotely over the internet, so that users can work with tutorials and demonstrations and conduct hands-on experiments from anywhere.

HF Bench

The HF Bench focuses on the HF bands. It is designed to provide convenient remote access by users with just their web browsers. No software needs to be procured or installed by users. The HF Bench currently hosts several SDRs, a KiwiSDR v2 and two AirSpy HF+ Discovery SDRs.

The OpenWebRX+ servers provides a large suite of analog and digital decoding modes for the HF bands.

Experimentation Bench

The Experimentation Bench focuses on the VHF and UHF bands. It is also designed to provide convenient remote access by users. The Experimentation Bench currently hosts three RTL-SDR class SDRs.

The OpenWEbRX+ servers provides access to a large suite of analog and digital decoding modes for the VHF and UHF bands.
