OpenWebRX+ HF Software Defined Radio Servers

The PARC STEMLab uses an OpenWebRX project fork called OpenWebRX+ authored by Marat Fayzullin. OpenWebRX+ is a multi-user software defined radio server application. It is able to operate with many different SDRs and supports multiple simultaneous remote users. OpenWebRX+ is free and open-source software that has been developed over many years.

Why we chose OpenWebRX+

One of the main advantages of OpenWebRX+ is that nothing needs to be installed by their users. The client operates entirely in the user's web browser. This actually drove our decision to use OpenWebRX+. Being able to just go to the URL with a web browser without having to install or configure any software opens these assets up to the widest possible audience.

The PARC STEMLab uses an extended version of OpenWebRX called OpenWebRX+ authored by Marat Fayzullin. The OpenWebRX+ fork adds additional functions such as more decoders and some usability enhancements. There are actually more than 140 forks of Jakob Ketterel's original OpenWebRX software repository. This version is also under very active development with an engaged developer and user community making OpenWebRX+ one of the most popular SDR server applications available today.
Although the software supports multiple SDRs per server, we only use one SDR per server to ensure maximum stability

OpenWebRX+

Using the server is very simple. Just go to the STEM main page and click on one of the Available buttons for the SDR you want to use. A new page will open in the browser with the main display.
The signal processing of the audio data stream is done primarily on the user's machine. So some of the more demanding protocols may may tax less powerful machine.
